UK CAER, Community Partners to Help Recycle Thanksgiving Cooking Oil

Frying a turkey this Thanksgiving? Help turn your leftover cooking oil into a valuable energy source at the 2018 Gobble Grease Toss.

Several community partners are teaming up to help turn a cooking byproduct into a valuable product, while contributing to biofuel research at the University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research (UK CAER).

The project is a public-private collaboration between the city of Lexington, Redwood Cooperative School, Kelly Green Biofuel, and UK CAER. Cooking oil will be used by UK CAER to study biofuel processing, although the bulk of the oil will be recycled by Kelley Green Biofuel.

Fayette County residents who fry their turkeys in cooking oil are encouraged to bring their leftover oil to the Redwood School at 166 Crestwood Drive in Lexington from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, November 23. Those interested in recycling their oil should bring their cooking oil in a disposable container with a lid. This event is free and for Fayette County residents only.
