UK CAER Excellence Recognized at Society of Organic Petrology Meeting

Several members of the UK Center for Applied Energy Research family were recognized at the Society of Organic Petrology’s Annual Meeting, which was held in Bloomington, Indiana from September 7-11, 2019,

Joan Esterle, an MS and PhD graduate of UK’s Earth & Environmental Sciences Department, was received the 2019 John Castano Honorary Member Award, the society’s highest award. The 2018 recipient of the award was Peter Warwick, who also received his PhD from UK under the direction of John Ferm.  Both Joan and Peter conducted their petrographic research in Jim Hower’s lab at the CAER.

Jim Hower, Sue Rimmer (former UK EES faculty), and their co-authors, Deborah Berti (Virginia Tech), Mike Hochella, Jr. (Virginia Tech), and Darrell Taulbee (CAER), received the 2019 Dal Swaine Award for the Best Refereed Paper in Coal and Hydrocarbon Source Rock Geochemistry.
